From Venus To The Valley NYE 2018"The Room" at Mahall's 20 Lanes in Lakewood in it's 5th incarnation by my design! This year's party gives a permanent installation make-over to the main stage space. From Venus To The Valley is inspired by the film Earth Girls Are Easy co-written by Julie Brown 80s comedy kitsch queen. Also inspired by the B52s, and of course very much so The Memphis Group, Ettore Sottsass, & Peter Shire's Los Angeles 1984 Olympic Village!! This is honestly my favorite concept to work in!To re-imagine the space we designed and built "American Bandstand" style platforms, put up gazebos, railing, mirrors, painted walls, the floor, and the main stage.
From Venus To The Valley Memphis inspired dreamSquiggles, stripes, globs, columns, triangles, pattern heaven! Mahall's now iconic Chevron stripe floor we originally painted in 2013 for the Black Lodge Twin Peaks inspired NYE. Nathan, and other Mahall's staff repainted it for the make-over with added white!See the gorgeous dance platform gazebo? Designed by myself and Meghan Mohler Wallace, the topper, I salvaged from Euclid Square Mall in the Cleveland area. You see these things on old mall kiosks. Perfect for the Valley/LA part of our theme. We repainted them in our pallet! The palm trees are my original design. Starting with 2- 2D flat pieces, they slide together to form a standup criss-cross tree. Painted with inspiration from Memphis Group's book of standards and 80s kitsch!

2018 From Venus To The Valley teamJust some of my team-mates helping to repaint our Mall gazebo tops!
From Venus To The Valley 2018 SetThe party set even in the daytime when seen from the sidewalk, through the garage doors is still a site to behold! Temporarily certain features have been removed for re-adjustment!
The Dance Gazebo! One of 2 standing gazebos to dance under on platforms we built from a grid scaffold I salvaged from a mall being demolished in the Cleveland area! This is Cassie, the bar manager at Mahall's 20 Lanes!
Gazebo top a better lookMy mall salvaged "gazebo top" repainted with my color palette inspired by Earth Girls Are Easy and LA 1984 Olympic Village!
The Mahall's MuralThis Pacific Northwest native themed mural that has survived year after year from The Black Lodge Twin Peaks NYE was on the chopping block.I usually cover it with fabric or mylar, this year I incorporated it into the design by wrapping it in white "neon". Actually it's a flexible LED fake neon. Looks real though! Something old something new.

Wall of "space pickles"This wall/ doorway to the Green Room sat black and plain for years. It became the perfect canvas to showcase a Memphis style pattern & a wild archway I was inspired to create by The Max, a Saved By The Bell themed Diner in Chicago.
2018 CountdownThis year Cleveland/LA artist created us an 80s themed clock countdown for NYE!
Space pickle wallFor the Valley Girl in us all! Borrowed design inspiration from The Max in Chicago!!
Mini Palm tree TrophyOur party guest @horse.kid and winner of our dance competition at the NYE 2018 party holds a miniature replica of our palm trees! I designed and laser cut these!

Tri C's Thrive @ FiveFor my Event Planning workshop class's final Event project I created a flyer inspired by Top Of The Pops to pair with our music & karaoke theme.
Jareth's Crystal Ball NYE 2017The poster for Jareth's Crystal Ball 2017.
Jareth's Crystal BallMe, hanging crystals with my team in the fantasy we created referencing the dance scene from Jim Henson's Labyrinth to Bowie's "As The World Falls Down".
Goblins by Meghan & I: Jareth's Crystal BallThis event became the most in depth I've ever done as far as creating full props!Any Labyrinth party would not be complete without goblins. With my teammate Meghan Mohler Wallace, we created a silicon mold from which we created the base of over 10 goblin faces. Each goblin a little bit different stood on the stage in front of the DJs and peered out over the party.
The Bog of Eternal StenchWell... our Labyrinth party had to have a bog of stench! We created effect by mixing water with a slime bath product and adding dry ice into a painted kiddie pool.
The floating clockInspired by an early scene in Jim Henson's Labyrinth wherein Jareth points to a floating 13-hour-clock, we suspended this clock face within a large branch we hung in the room. It became the perfect habitat for more glittering plants and fairies!!
The Labyrinth by Nori & IWith the assistance of Ian Charnas & Nori Swennes at Sear's Thinkbox, we cut this stage piece on a CNC Shop bot. 4 different strips, sketched and painted by Nori with assistance from Terry, John, Julie and I.
The Worm by Elena JuodisiusThe Labyrinth Worm created by teammate Elena Juodisius who has worked heavily with Cleveland's Parade The Circle creating puppets! The worm properly greeted each guest upon entering the room through our brief "labyrinth" of painted "stone walls". Exactly where he should be.
Jareth's Crystal Ball Owl & projectionsSeated you can just barely make out my go-to VJ Wes Johansen who brought great visuals and our countdown for this party & DECODANCE.Also see the Jareth Owl created by Meghan Mohler Wallace flying and watching over the entire party.
Hoggle by Sheila & IWe were very excited to create Hoggle & Ludo for authenticity of the party! With my teammate and sister Sheila Masters aka DJ Queen Mab we created Hoggle from a variety of materials starting with a ceramic jack-o-lantern light, clay, and a guitar stand. Hoggle sat on stage with the rest of the cast!
DJs Queen Mab & LUDO Himiko Gogo ( Me!)My sister Sheila aka DJ Queen Mab & myself DJ Himiko Gogo temporarily wearing the Ludo head I constructed for wearing around the party and mingling with guests!
The Wiseman by Elena JuodisiusAnother amazing craft from Elena Juodisius. Incredibly enough she created the Wiseman's bird friend into a wearable helmet! On stage with the cast!
The EyeballsUpon entering our mini labyrinth through the main door first you were greeted with our wandering eyeballs made from the most lucky modern lamp find and pieces of a green towel (Thanks Elena!).
The StageIt's the morning after and Ludo's display has lost his hair suit but basically picture is a view of our stationary cast members sans Wiseman on the far left, the iconic Mahall's sign, throne, and 13 hour clock.
Ludo & MeganI have to thank my partner in everything Terry Metter who wore our Ludo head most of the evening dancing and having fun with guests. Here he is dancing with one of our creators/teammates Megan!!
